Eating of the Apple on the River bank & the Guilt…True Event to Ponder upon!
Hazrat Abu Saaleh the Great Noble Parents of the Great Saint
رحمة الله عليه
Caspian Sea, there lived a pious and God-fearing man. His name was Hazrat Abu Saaleh
Musa Jangi Dost رحمة الله عليه . He used to spend most of his time in the contemplation and
love of Allaah Almighty.
opening his eyes, he saw an apple floating down the river. He reached out and
picked the apple up as it neared him and ate it. Abu Saaleh رحمة الله عليه had been
fasting and had not eaten for almost three days. Soon after, his conscience
questioned him whether the apple eaten by him was lawful. He got up and walked
along the riverbank to see where the apple may have come from; from which
garden the apple had fallen into the river. Abu Saaleh رحمة الله عليه intended to
pay the owner the cost of the apple, since he had eaten it, without his
permission.
over the river. He was convinced that the apple eaten by him had fallen from
that tree. Upon inquiry he learnt that the garden belonged to a Abdul Laah
Sawma’i رحمة الله عليه. Hazrat Abu Saaleh approached him and begged his pardon for
eating the apple without his prior permission. Such a humble approach made Abdul
Laah Sawma’i رحمة الله عليه to perceive that Hazrat Abu Saaleh was a pious and noble man.
He, therefore, asked Abu Saaleh رحمة الله عليه to pay him the price of the apple before his request for
pardon was considered. The price was to serve under him as long as he desired.
Hazrat Abu Saaleh Abu Saaleh رحمة
الله عليه agreed to serve Abdul Laah Sawma’i for as long a period as
his service was considered necessary. So he spent some time maintaining his
garden.
After a few years’ service of tending farm and gardens, Hazrat Abu Saaleh رحمة الله عليه asked the
owner of the garden to grant him pardon and release him. Abdul Laah Sawma’i,
before pardoning and allowing him to leave, asked Abu Saaleh to agree to marry
his daughter who, he was told, was blind, deaf, and who was crippled at the
hands and feet. After marriage he was also told to stay with them until a child
was born. These were the qualifying conditions of his release. In order to
obtain his pardon, Hazrat Abu Saaleh رحمة الله
عليه agreed to the proposal, and the marriage was accordingly
fixed up.
When he entered the chamber of the bride, he saw instead a Beautiful and
healthy lady. He immediately turned his eyes away from her assuming that he had
entered a wrong chamber because the lady before him did not tally with the
description given to him earlier.
By his kashf [clairvoyance] Abdul Laah Sawma’i understood the
predicament of Hazrat Abu Saaleh about his bride. He called him and explained
to him that
‘’O Prince, this is your wife and whatever I had said about
her is true. She is blind in that she has never lifted her eyes towards a
non-Mahram [non-marriageable relative]. She is deaf
in that she has never heard anything against the Shariah. She
is handicapped in the hand in
that she has never touched anything against the Shariah with
them, and she is handicapped in the legs in that she has never stepped out of
the house against the Shariah.’’
Such a personality of his new wife enlightened Hazrat Abu Saaleh with a new
light. The name of his wife was Saiyyidah Umul Khaier Faatimah. They are the
Blessed Noble Parents of Shaiekh Abdul Qaadir al-Jilaani رحمة الله عليه.
She was the
pious daughter of Hazrat as-Sayyad Shaiekh Abdul laah Sawma’i al-Husaieni az-Zaahid
رحمة الله عليه, who himself
was great Soofie and Saint of his time and a direct descendent of Hazrat Imaam
Husaien رحمة الله عليه.
And it was from their home that Allaah Almighty gave the
blessing of Wilayat [Sainthood]
and Mujadidiyyah [Reformership]
